The hill station of Tabo is a small town in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated on the banks of river Spiti and is lies on the road between Rekong Peo and Kaza the sub divisional head quarters of Spiti. Tabo hill station is also famous for its Tabo Monastery that was founded in 996 AD by Rinchen Zangpo which is located at an altitude of 3,050 m above the sea level. It is over thousand year old and his holiness Dalai Lama has expressed his desire to retire at Tabo.

The oldest monastery in the world, the Chor Khor Monastery was built in 996 AD. It is a belief over here that it was built overnight. It has beautiful murals and houses scriptures, tanghkas and clay Buddha statues built in Kashmiri style.
