About Pankang Teng Tso Lake :

The Lake is beautiful opened in valley of about 17 km from the town. The blue lapis (Lazuli) flowers are surrounded over the lake during the months of October and in winter it blossoms in snow. From the top it allows you to see the serene beauty of the lakes and peaks. It’s amazing to see the god gifted water that flows and disappears quickly when it get touched with underground.

Pankang Teng Tso Lake (P.T. Tso) is a place near Tawang that you can visit. It is situated was formed during an earthquake. It was part of a pine forest and now the trunks of dead pine trees protrude from the deep blue waters.

This is Pankang Teng Tso, one of the many lakes that I came across on my way to Sangetser Lake from Tawang. Tawang is a beautiful Himalayan District of Arunachal which shares its borders with Bhutan and Tibet. I reached here a day after there was a snowfall on 17th of april, 2009. This lake remains frozen during entire winter and is accessible for tourist during summer. The lake at the first glance appears to be a very romantic spot. It is a visual treat for nature lovers. Its tranquility is extremely soothing and refreshing. If lucky, one can also spot some red colored birds. The lake is well maintained by Indian Army. My guide told me that the name Pankang Teng is derived from Pankang tree whose log was collected by the Tibetan Government until 1914.

Location :

Located 17 km away from the town area, the lake is also known as Ptso Lake. The calm water, silently moving clouds, earth with its wetness, chirping of birds and warmth is all that one gets while visiting Pankang Teng Tso Lake. The lake is well maintained by the Indian Army and offers a soothing and tranquil atmosphere to its visitors. The lake remains frozen in winter and is ideal to visit only in summers. The path towards the lake is laden by bright rhododendron flowers that add to the exquisiteness of the place. One can also find colourful birds while on the lake and engage in some wonderful nature photography.

Best time to visit :

The best time to visit Pankang Teng Tso Lake is from April to October. These are summer months and hence all the attractions will be open. Even though its summer, the temperatures are low and weather is pleasant.

The name Pankang Teng is derived from Pankang tree whose log was collected by the Tibetan Government until the year 1914.
