Superintendent George Price proudly announced today that the Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod National Seashore has received the Northeast Region’s George B. Hartzog Award. This award recognizes outstanding volunteer group service. From 16 nominees across 13 states, AmeriCorps showed remarkable dedication to Northeast Region service. Named after Mr. Hartzog, who led the Volunteer-In-Parks program in 1970, the award honors AmeriCorps’ commitment to sharing talents, skills, and time with the National Park Service. Superintendent Price expressed gratitude for AmeriCorps Cape Cod’s invaluable contributions, noting how their volunteer service enhances the work of each division throughout the seashore.

Celebrating their 10th Anniversary, he emphasized the pride in collaborating with them and the joy in commemorating their decade-long commitment.

Since 1999, AmeriCorps has provided a decade of quality service to the 15 towns it serves. During this time, the national seashore has benefited from more than 30,000 hours of AmeriCorps service.  Corps members collaborated with park divisions on group projects and individual placements, enhancing park facilities and visitor information. It is a Beautiful Place For Vacations. AmeriCorps Cape serves in natural resource management and disaster services at the National Seashore. Barnstable County funds the program, supplemented by grants from national and state service organizations.  Housing for members is provided by Barnstable County and Cape Cod National Seashore.
