Anini is a town located in the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh in the Dibang Valley District. A popular tourist destination, Anini remains covered with fog and mist throughout the year. It is situated at an elevation of around 1,968 metres above sea level.

History Anini In Arunachal Pradesh :

The history of Anini is not very clear like most of the places in Arunachal Pradesh.

A number of Idu Mishmi tribes migrated from Tibet in the 1st millennium BC. They established their settlement in Lhoyu which was under the control of Tibet. The place remained isolated from the rest of the country for years. It was inhabited and rued by the tribes independently.

In the 18th century when the British entered the area they gained control of the entire territory. Anini continued to remain the way it was. During the Second World War, due to its location, the place slowly got recognized. Troops had to be sent to China via this area.

In 1947, Anini was officially declared as a part of India. The dispute over Anini’s control continued between India and China until the Indo-China war. After the war, Anini remained a part of India.

Finally in 1980, the Dibang Valley district was bifurcated from Lohit district and Anini was declared as the district headquarters.

Various Tribes, British were prominent rulers of Anini.

How To Reach Anini :

Anini by Air : The nearest airport to Anini is Mohanbari Airport at Dibrugarh, Assam is about 345 Km away.

The nearest international airport is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, located at a distance of around 800km from Anini.

The best and most convenient way to reach Anini is via Roing. Tourists can first reach Roing and then come to Anini as getting transport upto Roing is easier.

From the airport tourists can hire a taxi / cab to reach the city. Plenty of private and government buses are also available.

There is a helipad at Anini that is used by the Arunachal Helicopter Service for transportation and by other helicopters to bring commodities from Roing.

Anini by Rail : As Arunachal Pradesh does not have a railway line. The nearest railway station is  insukiarailway station is about 300 km from Anini.

The Dibrugarh Station in Assam is355 km from Anini. The station is served by Arunachal Express. Dibrugarh station has better and more transport services.

From the railway station, tourists can hire a taxi / cab to reach the city. Plenty of private and government buses are also available.

Anini by Road : Anini iswell connected by roads to the other cities of the state and to Assam. The roads are not very well maintained and hence it is advised to have a sturdy vehicle like a Gypsy, jeep, Innova, Sumo etc.The Inner-Line Check Post is at Shantipur.

The best way to reach Anini is to reach Roing by a bus or cab and then come to Anini by a private vehicle.

Anini byBus Route : Daily bus services (both private and government) are available to Roing. From there visitors can take a cab or a bus to reach Anini. Roing-Mayudia-Anini is the best route to reach Anini.

It is advisable to hire a sturdy vehicle such as Innova, jeep, Gypsy, Sumo etc. as the roads are not too good everywhere.

Precautionary Measures :

The climate of Anini varies based on the elevation on the plateau. In the lower elevations, the climate is humid subtropical and in the higher elevations, it is temperate. Anini remains covered with fog and mist throughout the year.

Overall it has a very pleasant climatic condition. Summer is from March to June when the temperature remains around 20 – 25 degrees. Winters are (November to February) where the temperature goes as low as 2 degrees C. Monsoons are from July to October with good rainfall. The best Time to visit Anini is late October to early December and again in June.
