About Kappad Beach in Kerala :

Situated 16 km from Kozhikode in the south Indian state of Kerala, the picture perfect Kappad beach was discovered by the great Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama when he landed here during the 15th century. Studded with beautiful rock formations on all its sides, the landscape of the beach consists of numerous coconut groves and miles long stretches of silvery sands wetted by frothy surf that gently rolls up and down the shores.

The beach is situated away from the hustle and bustle of the city making it an ideal place for a relaxing vacation. All the visitors get to see is picture perfect beauty and the sight of a few fishermen going out into the sea along with their fishing nets. The 800 year old temple that lies on the edges of the rocks is another major attraction. A pillar nearby has inscriptions which states that Vasco Da Gama landed at the place in 1498.

Kappad beach is one of the historical beach tours of India where Vasco De Gama with 170 men in three vessels landed on 27th of May, 1498 and opened a new chapter in the history of India as “Coming of Europeans” and in the history of world as “Exploration of Europeans”. The Kappad beach is situated 16 Km away from Kozhikode, locally known as Kappakadavu is famous for its pleasant, calm beach studded with rocks and caressed friendly waves! Kappad beach of Kerala also attracted the tourists for the rock where 800 years old temple is situated and the landscape that protrudes into the sea.

The nearby city Kozhikode is famous for its Halwa therefore we’d advise you not to miss the chance to taste it. The banana chips of the place are also famous among the tourists. The shopping area in Kozhikode which sees the most rush is the Sweet Meat Market.

How  To Reach :

By Air : The nearest airport is located at Calicut, just 30 km from the city. Regular flights connect Calicut with all the major Indian cities as well as a few international cities. The international airport, situated 200 km away at Cochin is another important centre, connecting the city with all the major Indian and international destinations.

By Rail : Kozhikode railway station is situated 2 km from the Mansari square and connected to all the major Indian cities through a number of regular trains.

By Road : State transport buses connect the city with other nearby cities including Mysore, Madurai, Pondicherry, Mangalore, Ooty and others. Another option is to hire a taxi from any of the nearby cities.
