Iskcon Temple is located in the Injambakkam region in Thyagaray Nagar of Chennai. The temple is one of the many popular worshipping places established by the ISKCON society in the region of India. About Iskcon Temple :

As part of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), the temple is situated on the Chord Road and is built on a hillock with scenic surroundings. As a part of the Hare Krishna movement in India, its followers believe that Hindu Lord Krishna is the creator of this world and is the central theme of their movement.

This temple was established in Bengaluru in 1996. The temple spans across the length of 4-5 football grounds and is quite the sight to see. Massive pillars, a very divine idol for worship, laser shows and living quarters, class rooms, yoga centres, dance studios, gift shops and restaurants signify this place of worship. A lot of foreign visitors attend workshops and spiritual programmes here. The annual Rath Yathra, (Chariot Procession) of Krishna and Balrama is attended by thousands of devotes.

  • The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Thursday inaugurated its new Sri Radha Krishna Temple at Akkarai in Chennai.
  • Spread over an area of 1.5 acres, the temple has been constructed at a cost of Rs.10 crore collected from devotees in Chennai.
  • It has an auditorium for cultural and spiritual programmes and a ‘prasadam’ hall.
  • Thousands of devotees witnessed the pran pratishta when the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha and their sakhis — Lalitha and Vishaka — were installed in one of the three beautifully-carved teak — wood altars in the temple hall.
  • The other idols in the hall include those of Lord Chaitanya and Lord Nityananda; Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra.
  • After the Kumbhabishekam and Maha mangala arati — the first decorated darshan of the deities — a helicopter showered flowers over the ‘gopurams’ built in the Kalinga style with a Sudarshana Chakra on the top of the tallest ‘gopuram.’
  • The temple has been designed under the expertise of Bhanu Swami.
  • The entrance of the temple is marked by the representation of the universe. The idols in the temple on Burkit Road unit have also been shifted to this temple.
  • The temple is part of the Centre for Spiritual Art and Culture. Work on constructing the centre began in March 2002.
  • The Chennai centre of ISKCON has 8,000 life patrons.

History Iskcon Temple In Chennai :

The ISKCON preaching in Chennai was started by H.H. Giriraj, a disciple of the founder of ISKCON. It was not un till 1983 that the ISKCON Chennai established a temple and ashram at Kilapuak Garden Road. The deities to this temple were donated by a patron and the worship started from late 1983. In the year 1988 ISKCON Headquarters moved to T Nagar.
