About Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam :
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is a small sanctuary for the Rhino. It is a very small sanctuary – about 15 km2 – but the density of rhionos is high. There are 80+ rhinos in this small sanctuary. So rhinos can be easily seen. Visitors will usually see 5-10 rhinos when going for jeep or elephant ride. It is possible to get very close to the rhinos when on elephant ride.
Pobitora is 48km by road from Guwahati and so it is very popular with visitors from Guwahati. It also makes a convenient stopover for people going to Kaziranga.
Pobitora has played a very important role in the conservation of Rhinos. Rhinos from Pobitora have been translocated to Manas National Park. Along with the rhino, Pobitora also has other animals such as feral semi-wild buffalo, wild boar and jackal.
Flora :
The place is quite hilly and thus due to the difference in altitudes, one can find a diverse vegetation. The vegetation of the place may vary according to the height of the place. The sanctuary is fully with a large numbers of coconut trees growing all over the place.
Fauna :
The chief attraction of the place is the Great Indian one horned Rhinoceros. There are around 80 such Rhinoceros that can be seen easily around. In addition, one can also see a large number of Asiatic Buffaloes, Wild bear, Civet cat, Leopard, monkeys and many more. There are various species of birds among which 2000 species are migratory birds that migrate each and every year to this place for breeding purposes.

Best time to visit Guwahati :
Guwahati enjoys moderate weather with average high temperature of 29°C and average minimum is 19°C. Summer (April-May) has a maximum of 40°C and winter (October to March) has a minimum 5°C. Monsoon during June to October give good rainfalls.
Bihus are the National festival of Assamese, which is celebrated with much enthusiasm. The Bahag bihu during April, the Magh or Bhogali bihu during January and The Kati or Kangali bihu during September-October are very attractive.
