History :
Koloriang was an unnoticed remote tribal area for centuries. Historically not much is known about the place. Administratively based on its location it can be said that it was ruled by the Jitri Dynasty in the 11th century and later by the Ahom Kingdom.
The Ahom rulers gave the Nyishis the right to receive payments from a few villages at the foothills. To get this right they had to pay an annual royalty to the king. This collection was not sufficient for them. In the late 16th century, they began to raid the neighboring villages and revolted against the king by not paying any royalty to him. The era of King Rudra Singha was peaceful when the Nyishis and the Ahoms agreed to live in coordination.
After the death of King Rudra Singha the hostility began again. In 1769, the Moamaria rebellion, broke out in Assam and continued till the early 18th century. The Nyishis and the Ahoms agreed to fight together against the Ahom Kingdom. The revolt however did not last for long.
The Ahom kingdom collapsed and the Treaty of Yandabo was signed between Assam and the British that led to Assam and its neighboring areas including Koloriang coming under the control of the British in1826. The British did not focus towards any development of the Nyishis. The tribe gradually began to settle down in plains and began cultivation.
