A vibrant place, full of entertaining information regarding the woodcarvings, musical instruments, creations and types of textiles and handicrafts, the museum provides a quiet relief for the tired legs and fatigued body to relax and enjoy the culture of Arunachal Pradesh. There is also a special section on archeological finds. A workshop located inside the Handicrafts section prides itself on its expertise on traditional cane manufacture and one can witness the work as it progresses. An informative library with books ranging from the state to world activities is also open to public.

An extensive gamut of handicrafts, reminiscent of traditional Arunachal, grabs attention of the visitors. Moreover, archaeological findings are exhibited in a separate section at the museum.

In the museum, there is a workshop of Handicraft section, where one can witness traditional cane manufacturing procedure and progress. Along with the art gallery and workshop, there is an informative library that houses an extensive collection of books.

Location :

Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum is located at Itanagar in Papum Pare District of Arunachal Pradesh. The museum displays extensive ethnographic collection of local tribes including wood carvings, musical instruments, textiles, handicrafts and archeological finds. The museum also holds a library and a handicraft center which specializes in traditional cane manufacture.

 

Collection and activities :

The ground floor of the museum houses an extensive ethnographic collection, including traditional art, musical instruments, religious objects, and handicrafts, like wood carving and cane products, while the first floor has archaeological objects found in Ita Fort, Noksparbat and Malinithan in West Siang district.
Apart from its collection, the museum runs a workshop for traditional cane products at its Handicrafts Centre. The museum shop sells tribal handicrafts.
In 2011, Tapi Mra, the first person from the state to scale Mt. Everest, donated his entire expedition gear to the museum.
